The pride of Japan lies at your feet. The sophistication of the Sukajan jacket in socks.
During the Meiji era, the Japanese aesthetic sense of Japonism astonished the world. This special pair of socks revives that spirit, which is also the theme of this season. The dragon embroidery, a symbol of the Sukajan jacket, has been handcrafted into the socks.
The figure of a powerful soaring dragon stands against a calm khaki green body. This playful piece is like wearing a miniature Sukajan jacket at your feet.
A tribute to the unique Western clothing item, the Sukajan jacket
The Sukajan (souvenir jacket) is said to be the only Western clothing item created in Japan after the war. It started as a jacket decorated with oriental embroidery of eagles, tigers, dragons, etc., as a memento for American soldiers stationed in Japan.
In the 1950s, they became official supplies to US military bases, and eventually came to be loved by young people in Japan as "sukajan" around Yokosuka Base. This work incorporates the aesthetics of this historical garment into modern socks.
Aesthetics in the details
The characters "Meriyan" are engraved on the dragon motif. This is actually a word derived from the Portuguese "MEIAS" and Spanish "MEDIAS" during the Nanban trade era, and it is a historic word that literally means "socks."
The cuffs are made of a brushed material that replicates the cuffs of a traditional Sukajan jacket. The black background with grey lines is reminiscent of a real Sukajan jacket. The history of this historic garment is expressed in this pair of shoes.
New styling possibilities
Letting them peek out from under your denim or chino pants will give you a subtle personality. You can also pair them with sandals for a stylish look that will give you a modern Japanese look. Why not add a little playfulness and story to your everyday outfit?
