The Broad Arrow is a mark indicating British government property.
Arrows were an important weapon in the British military, and the symbol was completed by stylizing the arrowhead.
Nowadays, there are examples of it being used as a motif for various brands.
It first came into use in the late 1600s and was even used on prison uniforms until the 1920s.
Suffragettes continued their work to gain the right to vote.
These women, who acted in order to gain public sympathy, were imprisoned in horrible, squalid prison conditions and fought for their lives.
This is a recent story, only about 100 years ago.
These socks were made with respect for these women.
