What is WYP?

WYP

WYP (Waste Yarn Project) is a studio based in Paris, France,
that creates one-of-a-kind knitwear from yarn left over at factories.

Waste yarn refers to yarn left over after production that cannot be used for the next order. Much of it has historically been thrown away or left sitting at the factory.
At WYP, we see it not as "waste," but as seeds for fun challenges that give life to something new.

The yarn combinations are decided by spinning an original roulette wheel. These color palettes born from chance are what make WYP knitwear so appealing.

WYP × HOiSUM
The Story Behind the Collaboration

It all began with an introduction
from a mutual friend.

WYP (Waste Yarn Project) rescues yarn left over from factories and carefully crafts it into knitwear by hand.
HOiSUM has long made socks one pair at a time, valuing the work of skilled artisans.
Though our materials and products differ,
our passion for craftsmanship is very similar.
As we talked, our shared values grew stronger,
and this collaboration was born.

  • Border Socks

We knitted these with the same stripe pitch as WYP sweaters. The low-gauge knit creates a chunky, rustic feel that brings the texture of knitwear to your feet. These socks also use WASTE YARN (yarn left over from the production process) as part of the material.
  • Border High Socks

    Border High Socks
These high socks are made using leftover Kasuri (splashed pattern) yarn. Just like WYP's knitwear, the color scheme was knitted at random. Part of the yarn consists of WASTE YARN (yarn left over from the production process). Available in two colors: camel and purple. The longer length allows the random color combinations to extend all the way up the calf. The beauty of the accidental color scheme becomes a pair of high socks.

    Border Crew Socks

    Border High Socks
These crew socks were knitted on rare, unique machines that are becoming increasingly scarce. The result is an unusual border pattern where the design varies even within a single sock. Part of the yarn consists of WASTE YARN (yarn left over from the production process).
