When developing a collection with a "British" theme, one thing that cannot be avoided is the "tradition of sock manufacturing."
The tradition of sock manufacturing began with a British priest, and Britain and socks have an inseparable history.
This time, the socks are a collaboration with Corgi *1, a knitwear manufacturer with over 130 years of history, and are made using traditional British knitting machines, processes, and finishing methods that are very different from Asian socks in every way - making them " Made in the UK " socks - while also featuring HOiSUM 's signature colorful coloring.
Made from 100 % Italian mercerized cotton.
It has reduced pilling, good color development, and a high-quality silk-like luster, shine and firmness.
The socks are made without using backing yarn, which is not often seen in modern socks, so they take full advantage of the characteristics of cotton and are soft, supple and comfortable to wear.
The toe area is all “linked”*2 by hand by craftsmen.
This is one of the traditional craftsmanship that Corgi is proud of.
The luxurious material and stitching at the toe make for a smart fit.
*1 What is Corgi ?
Corgi Hosiery is a knitwear manufacturer founded in South Wales, UK in 1893 .
The machines used in manufacturing include rare hand knitting machines that are over 120 years old, and many old machines are still in operation. There are living traditions that want to be passed on to future generations, such as the traditional hand-knitting of the toes. Although the brand is now a supplier to the royal family and has become a global brand, it first gained recognition for the argyle socks it manufactured for Brooks Brothers. The brand started with the desire to provide warm long socks for coal miners in Wales, and has grown into a global knitwear brand that manufactures knitwear for well-known luxury brands such as Thom Browne and Ralph Lauren's Purple Label.
*2 What is linking?
The linking process involves picking up and sewing each stitch at the toe .
This requires precise work, with no room for error even in the slightest .
Corgi factories have fewer linking craftsmen, not only in Japan but also overseas.
